Dear Fifth Grade Parents,
We are very busy working hard here in 5A! As conferences approach, students are preparing by doing a self-evaluation and making goals. They are also preparing some work to share with you! Looking ahead, please clear your calendar to attend the Advent Wreath Blessing Prayer Service lead by 5A. It is on 12/6 at 8:30am in the school hall.

Religion
Next week we will be learning about Advent and working on our Advent Wreath Blessing Prayer Service which is on 12/6. Students will be required to practice their reading/acting part at home as well. We will also be using some class time to prepare for conferences since they are student lead in 5th grade.

Next week, we will continue our unit on multiplying and dividing fractions and mixed numbers. The students are feeling confident with the steps on multiplying fractions and mixed numbers, and we introduced how to cancel (or reduce before multiplying). Next week, we will introduce dividing of fractions and mixed numbers.
Social Studies
On 11/19 we are having the Ch. 5 Test. Students have the study guide and the correct answers. They should be studying each day for this test. In 5th grade we have a review test of the 50 State. We also have a test on the State Capitals. We will work on this information on 11/21 & 11/22. The details about the format will be revealed in class. These two tests will be in May. Students will be asked to study for this at home after the initial review of the material next week. Please check PowerSchool and turn in any late/missing work by 11/15.
Science
Students begin Lesson 3, “How are Animals Classified?” Students will identify different classifications of invertebrates such as mollusks and arthropods. Students will also compare and contrast different groups of vertebrates.
Students will take a quiz on Lesson 2 & 3 next Friday. They will complete two study guides to help them prepare for the quiz.
LA
Spelling Quiz on Lesson 5 words, no challenge words, is tomorrow! Words can be found on my website: https://6b.holyrosaryws.org/5th-la/. This upcoming week, we are continuing to work on formatting our opinion papers to be compliant with M.L.A. standards, as well as working towards the final draft. The next Spelling Quiz for Lesson 6 words, challenge words included, will be December 6th, the Friday once we return from Thanksgiving break.
Reading: Next week we will focus on analyzing informational text and preparing for conference week.
