Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

I hope you all enjoyed Veteran’s Day! The following is a curriculum update for the week of November 15-19th.

Math
11/15: Lesson 35: Problems About Comparing and Elapsed Time
11/16: Test #6
11/17: Lesson 36, Classifying Triangles
11/18: Lesson 37: Drawing Pictures of Fractions

Religion
Today and Monday we are sharing our Baptism Collages in class. On Monday we will also we working in groups to discuss the question: How can we live as Catholics?
The Chapter 14 test will be on Friday 11/19.

Reading
Book Reports are due on Thurs. Nov.18th. Remember, no homework passes will be accepted. Students should be sure to use the rubric as a checklist and to turn the rubric in with their finished projects.

Language Arts
Students practice identifying simple subjects and predicates. We review compound sentences and conjunctions. There is no spelling assignment or test this week.

Science
Students will draw diagrams of plant and animal cells to discover key differences. Students will learn the functions of different cells in their bodies. Students will discover how scientists classify living things.

Social Studies
The fifth graders have been working on Chapter 5, Routes of Exploration to the New World. We have been learning about 8 specific European explorers and have created a matrix in class with an assorted amount of information. The students then have been working on the same Matrix in their Interactive Notebook in class. The test for this will be next Thursday 11/18. Last week 5A and 5B learned about Veterans Day in class. We watched a video explaining Veteran’s Day and them we had a class discussion.
