Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

Our 5th Grade Lenten almsgiving is to collect funds for our adopted students from Uganda. We have made this commitment and it is so important to involve the students.

Reminder:

Math

Please have your child review the packet I made of rules for decimal placement when multiplying and dividing decimals. This is very important to be successful for the Ch. 6 Test.

3/5 – Review for the Ch. 6 Test

3/7 – Correct the pre-test and do review worksheets

3/8 – Chapter 6 Test

Religion

We have begun Chapter 16, Liturgy of the Word. Students are presently working on making a “Modern Day” Dead Sea Scroll. We learned about how the Scrolls were found. Students worked today in class to select a passage from the Bible and to create their Dead Sea Scroll. This assignment is due tomorrow 3/5.

Science

Students will examine the relationship between photosynthesis and respiration to understand how carbon dioxide and oxygen is cycled through an ecosystem. Students will also learn how all living things use nitrogen and how it is cycled through the earth. Students will take an Ecology quiz on Chapter 4, lessons 3 & 4 next Wednesday.

Social Studies

The fifth graders are currently working on Chapter 9, Colonial Williamsburg. Students are busy working in small groups to tour and visit various locations in Colonial Williamsburg. We visited the “Slave Quarters” and the students learned the song “Juba”. Ask them to sing it for you! It is a call and response song so you can join in! Students will get the study guide for this chapter on March 4th. The test for this chapter will be on March 10th.

Language Arts

This week in language arts the focus for spelling was changing the final y to i. In grammar students learned about prepositions and prepositional phrases. Students continued working on their character description essay in writing this week. Students worked on each body paragraph in class and will write their conclusion paragraph for next week.
