Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

I would like to wish you all a Happy Easter! I hope you have a wonderful break.

The week after Spring Break we will begin ITBS testing. Testing will begin on Tuesday 4/9. Please have your child get good rest during that week and well-balanced meals!

We forgot to pass out the Boomerang envelopes so you will get them on Monday after the break. Also, Monday you will receive sign up forms for class pictures!

ITBS Testing- 4/8 -4/12 (possibly to 4/16)

Math

Religion

We will be ITBS testing during religion class when we return from the break.

Social Studies

The fifth graders are currently working on Chapter 10.  I have changed to date of this test to Tuesday 4/16.  This is to accommodate for ITBS testing as well as a science test that has been planned. The week after spring break we will be ITBS testing. Therefore we will have two social studies classes and during that time we will be performing our skits on the six events that lead up to the Revolutionary War. I encourage the students to study the Interactive Notebook notes and the online test to prepare for this test. The activity we are doing in class, creating skits based on the cartoon metaphors of the 6 events also will help in preparing the students for this test.

Science

Students will learn about natural cycles in an ecosystem. They will discover how carbon dioxide, oxygen, nitrogen and water cycle through an ecosystem. Students will take a test on Chapter 4, Ecology Friday, April 12th.

Language Arts

Students will receive their Root Words test tomorrow, March 28th. Please be sure to check PowerSchool for updated grades.

Students need to be spending an average of 15 minutes a night studying their spelling words. I cannot express enough how important spelling is to the students’ vocabulary recognition and writing.

Reading

Next week, students will continue their own character description and apply the model used in class. Character Description paragraphs will be completed in the near future, as ITBS testing will occur the week after Spring Break. Students will receive a rubric for their Character Description paragraph on Tuesday after Spring Break.

Have a wonderful Easter!
