Dear Fifth Grade Parents,
Next week is Catholic Schools Week! I want to take this opportunity to thank you for everything you do for Holy Rosary School. Your dedication to your children, volunteer hours, monetary donations, attendance at school and church events and overall support make Holy Rosary such a special place. Over the 17 years that I have worked here I have always been amazed at how supportive and involved the parents of Holy Rosary School are every year. You are truly “Beacons of Light” to all of us! Curriculum Update:
Math
1/24 Friday: Ch. 5, Lesson 7 Addition Properties
1/27 Monday: Check My Progress Quiz p. 347 Review on Friday!
1/28 Tuesday: Ch. 5, Lesson 8, Hands On Subtract Decimals
1/29 Wednesday: Ch. 5, Lesson 9, Hands On Subtract Decimals Using Models
1/30 No Math – Spelling Bee
1/31 No Math – Spirit Assembly
Religion
We will have an open book test on Ch. 15 on 1/27. The Study Guide is also due on Monday 1/27.
Social Studies
The Fifth Graders will begin Chapter 7, Comparing the Colonies. In this chapter we will explore the New England, Middle, and Southern colonies. We will be looking at similarities and differences in the categories of Reason for Founding, Geography and Climate, Jobs, and Government. Students will be placed in groups and given a specific colony to make a Billboard and presentation to persuade people to move to their colony.
Science
Inventions are due tomorrow. Students may turn them in on Monday if they need more time. They will be displayed in the hallway for Catholic Schools Week.
Students will discover how living things are classified into smaller groups (genus and species). Classification helps scientists communicate and share ideas with each other about living organisms.
Language Arts
This week, students continued to learn about linking verbs, state-of-being verbs, helping verbs, and action verbs. The 5th grade students will have a Verb test this week. 5B test will be January 24th. 5A test will be January 23rd. Students have received a study guide for their Verb test January 13th. Due to Catholic School Week next week, there will be no spelling test next week. The next spelling test will be February 4th.
