Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

Today we had our first “Accreditation” visit. We will have the team visit again in March for several days. Tomorrow is a half- day and there is NO SCHOOL on Monday and Tuesday.

Reminders:
Camp forms and payment due March 8th!

Here is a brief curriculum update for the week of 2/17- 2/24.

Math
2/23 Wednesday: Test #12
2/24 Thursday: Lesson 66, Reading a Centimeter Scale

Religion
Next week we will continue learning about Ch. 17, Liturgy of the Word. Please bring your class work on the parts of the Liturgy of the Word to class on Thursday.

Social Studies
We are working on Chapter 10, Growing Tensions between the British and the Colonies. The students are working in pairs to figure out the cartoon metaphors and translate them into what really happened in history. We will be working on this throughout next week as well.

Language Arts
Students work on using strong verbs in their writing. We practice using the past, present and future tenses of verbs. Students learn to conjugate verbs in the first, second and third person–singular and plural forms. There will be no spelling assignment or test this week.

Science
Students will wrap up their study of adaptations with a test on Chapter 3, Lessons 1-3 next Friday (2/25).

Reading
We finished reading Number the Stars this week. Students have been encouraged to explore the Number the Stars website on Sparknotes.com and asked to complete the on-line quiz. http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/numberthestars/ As a culmination to this unit, the 5th graders are creating posters to depict some of the themes found in this novel. Most of this work will be completed during class time.

Have a great week!!
